What is Romeo & Juliet?

This touring production of William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy was produced by Lawnchair Theatre, an outdoor Summer Shakespeare company in Westchester, NY. Set in 1934 New Orleans during the Mardi Gras season, our production was informed by this period of American history. Marked by the economic insecurity of the great depression and lubricated with the repeal of prohibition, America in the 1930s crackled with competing ideologies and rising social tensions – a fascinating political backdrop for the personal struggles of the Montagues and Capulets.
